Service boundaries

AGL Access Works provides practical assistive technology and access consultancy.

What this service covers

Practical access support, not clinical or legal advice

AGL Access Works provides practical assistive technology and access consultancy. It does not provide medical diagnosis, clinical treatment, occupational therapy, legal advice, financial advice, safeguarding investigation or emergency support. Where a need falls outside the scope of the service, this will be explained clearly.

The service focuses on helping people, families, professionals and support teams understand and improve access to technology, communication tools, documents, digital systems and everyday equipment.

Where appropriate, I may suggest the type of professional input that may be needed.

What AGL Access Works can support

AGL Access Works can support with:

  • Assistive technology assessment and practical access reviews
  • iPhone, iPad, Windows and smart technology access
  • Visual impairment and sensory access support
  • Screen reader, magnification, voice access and alternative input setup
  • Switch access, adapted keyboards, mice and access routes
  • Accessible documents and resource modification
  • Workplace access and adjustment implementation
  • AI-supported accessibility workflows, where appropriate and safe
  • Training, familiarisation and follow-up support
  • Written access reports, recommendations and technical handover
  • Practical liaison with families, care teams, employers, case managers and other professionals

The focus is on what works in real life: the person, the environment, the equipment, the support available and the level of effort required.

What AGL Access Works does not provide

  • Medical diagnosis
  • Clinical treatment
  • Occupational therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Speech and language therapy
  • Psychological therapy
  • Legal advice
  • Financial advice
  • Benefits advice
  • Safeguarding investigation
  • Emergency support
  • Wheelchair safety assessment
  • Seating, posture or pressure-care assessment
  • Formal mental capacity assessment
  • Regulated clinical opinion

If any of these areas are relevant, input may be needed from an appropriate qualified professional.

Working alongside other professionals

AGL Access Works can work independently or alongside multidisciplinary teams.

This may include case managers, occupational therapists, rehabilitation professionals, speech and language therapists, sensory impairment specialists, care teams, education staff, employers, IT teams and family support networks.

Where another professional is already involved, AGL Access Works will aim to complement their role rather than replace it.

Wheelchairs, seating and physical safety

AGL Access Works may comment on technology access, device positioning, control access or usability where this relates to assistive technology.

However, wheelchair safety, powered wheelchair driving, seating, posture, pressure care, moving and handling, and physical risk decisions should be assessed by appropriately qualified professionals such as wheelchair services, occupational therapists, physiotherapists or relevant clinical teams.

AGL Access Works does not approve or certify wheelchair adaptations or safety-critical mobility arrangements.

Workplace adjustments

AGL Access Works can support practical implementation of workplace access routes, assistive technology, accessible documents, digital workflows and technical handover.

However, AGL Access Works does not provide legal advice on employment law or determine whether an adjustment is legally "reasonable." Employers, employees, HR teams, unions, occupational health providers or legal advisers may need to be involved where formal workplace decisions are required.

Reports and recommendations

Reports from AGL Access Works are based on observed access, practical testing, user feedback, available information and assistive technology practice.

Reports are intended to support decision-making, implementation and handover. They should be read alongside relevant clinical, occupational therapy, workplace, educational or legal advice where applicable.

Unless separately agreed, reports are not medico-legal expert witness reports.

AI-supported tools

AGL Access Works may support the use of AI tools where they can improve access, independence or workflow.

AI tools should not be used as a replacement for professional judgement, safeguarding decisions, clinical advice, legal advice or human support where these are required.

Where AI tools may handle personal, workplace, medical or confidential information, approval from the relevant organisation or data owner may be needed before use.

Emergency and urgent situations

AGL Access Works is not an emergency service.

If someone is at immediate risk, needs urgent medical help, or there is a safeguarding emergency, contact the appropriate emergency, health, safeguarding or care service directly.

If you are not sure

You do not need to know which service you need before getting in touch.

Start with the access barrier:

  • What the person is trying to do
  • What is getting in the way
  • What technology or support is already in place
  • What needs to work better

I will explain clearly whether AGL Access Works is an appropriate route, or whether another professional service may be more suitable.
